Oscar Z. "The Great And Powerful" Diggs 2013-07-28

Oscar Z. Diggs

Known, betimes, as The Great And Powerful Oz.

O.Z. abandons a losing Psyche contest to use Warfare against the Mangaboo Sorcerer.

Oscar Diggs knew himself marked for an unusual destiny. How else could he carry such a name as his own -- Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkel Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs. Fame was assured, though destiny can always use a helping hand, and O. Z. Diggs is the one to provide it.

Making his name first as a traveling showman and illusionist, O.Z. specialized in grand spectacle. Fireworks, spectral voices, impersonations, and stage illusions were his passion. His mechanical talent allowed him to invent his own devices for his show, using steam, compressed air, electricity and fire to put on a grand impression. Though he never neglected the personal touch; tricks with hats, scarves, balls and rings, and bold, imaginative lies stated with great confidence. When O.Z. was really on his game, he was able to heal the sick with the touch of his hand. While not every trick turned right, he knew how to turn slips into laughter and win back his audience.

Meriadne 2013-07-27

Meriadne (Prospera)

Once known as Prospera

"Meriadne? Meriadne? What? That's not... that's not your name. Wait. Prospera, what have you done to yourself?"

Meriadne is not what she once was. Nor, perhaps, who. As Prospera, she was the Lady of Milanesca, a glorious world of poetry, art, and romance; while envy and strife were known, they did not prevail. Since the fall of Milanesca at her own hand, she broods, wrapping her new domain with chains of her own making, holding it together, and preserving what she can for its destiny, as home for the survivors of her fallen world.

"The blood taxers are here again, I reckon," one said. "Me and the little one are for the hills."
His interlocutor replied, "Eh, I've got a few drops yet. And they do feed you well."

Penelope (Pelican, Sabrina) 2013-07-07

Penelope

Sometimes known as Pelican or Sabrina

Sabrina fair
Listen where thou art sitting
Under the glassy, cool, translucent wave,
In twisted braids of lilies knitting
The loose train of thy amber-dropping hair

-- Milton

Penelope's generosity is tinged with sorrow. Some time ago, her twin babies were stolen from her. Though she has searched the worlds, she never found them. The Order of the Pelican has been a solace for her, helping others where she has not been able to help herself. Yet still she searches, whether staring into her children's icons, or studying mysteries that might help her find them, or help her start anew.

"I've learned much about why we, so vital, are so rarely fertile."
"There's a connection?"
"Yes. And there are ways around it. There are the usual magic dodges, but the side effects and risks are undesirable. There are more laborious workarounds, with herbs, diet and exercise unto exhaustion. And then there is another road. Parthenogenesis."

Sulley and Mike 2013-06-28

Sulley and Mike Adapted from Monsters Inc.

I've split 100 points between two characters. They work closely together and have complementary strengths.

Sulley, a great shaggy blue beast, has the advantage of a naturally imposing physique. But his fuzzy cuteness has to be worked around by rigorous training in scariness. Sulley's naturally easy-going, but delights in rising to dramatic occasions. He relies on his best friend Mike for scare-coaching and strategy.

Mike, a little green cyclops, had ambitions to be a great scarer, but his diminutive size was too much of a challenge to overcome. He's put his diligent studies to work as a coach of scariness. Mike has always had to work a little harder at things, and dealing with ups and downs have made him resourceful, if a little suspicious and a bit of a schemer. Mike relies on his pal Sulley to help him make good impressions and deliver the goods in scare-power.
